Painted 30 pictures for the Sons of the Revolution gallery in Fraunces Tavern depicting scenes from the American Revolution (donated to FTM by George Zabriskie in 1936). The New York Historical Society also owns 30 historical paintings. Title Guarantee and Trust Comapny also owns a number of his final works. The Wagnalls Memorial Library at Lithopolis, Ohio also has some studies and final works of Dunsmore. Dunsmore stressed the need for meticulous research in history painting, |

In 1875 Dunsmore traveled to Paris to study with Thomas Couture who was also a history painter. Dunsmore descended from a Revolutionary War veteran and was an active member of the Sons of the Revolution. |
