Rectangular line engraving of Jonathan Trumbull. He sits in a study, wearing gentlemen's dress. The chair upon which he sits faces the viewer, and Trumbull has his legs crossed, his left hand tucked into his open waistcoat. His right hand clutches a cane. To his left is a desk with assorted papers, books, and a quill and inkwell. On the floor under the desk lies a pile of books. On the ottoman to Trumbull's forward right its an attache case. "From he original painting by Chappel in the possession of the publishers./ Johnson, Fry & Co. Publishers, New York./ Entered according to act of Congress AD 1863 by Johnson, Fry & Co. in the clerk's office of the district court (illegible, faded text)." |
