Rectangular line engraving depicting a scene with a roomful of men. To the left stand a group of soldiers, two with rifles, one with sword drawn, and the fourth reading from a piece of paper. With them stands a drummer boy. To the right of the scene is another group of soldiers, most likely officers. The two to the far right are conferring with each other, while another stands and listens to the reading officer calmly. Behind him sits a man, clearly distraught, with his head in his hand.
