Rectangular line engraving of Washington and related paraphernalia. In the center of the scene is an oval, ornately framed portrait of Washington, who is in military uniform and positioned in a 3/4 slight profile. Behind the portrait is a hanging early American flag. To the portrait's left sits an eagle with an olive branch in its mouth. In the foreground on a table sit Washington's hat, sword, and cane, along with assorted stationary. "Painted by A. Chappel. Engraved by G.R. Hall./ G. Washington/ From the original portrait by Pine in the possession of I. Carson Brevoort, Esq./ Ent.d. according to act of Congress AD 1856 by Martin & Johnson in the clerks office of the district court of the southern district of New York." |
