Historical context |
Bottle of Farquhar Madeira: of 1791 vintage of 1789 (in handmade glass bottle). Considered by Stephen Whitney to be the best in his cellar. The Whitney house faced the south side of Bowling Green, site of the present new Customs House. This wine sold at auction in 1860 for $38 per bottle. |
