Physical description |
Oval mezzotint portrait of Washington wearing wig, white stock and jabot, vest, and unbuttoned waistcoat. Washington is featured at a three-quarter length facing slightly to the left. The inscription "Woolley Pinxit/ et Sculpsit" appears below the portait in each of the two bottom corners. Below the print, the title is inscribed "George Washington Esqr." The source for this primitive portrait of Washington was one of Stuart's Athenaeum-type heads. The mezzotint was originally published at the Shakespeare Gallery, No. 11 Park Ave. New York. The portrait has a companion piece of Mrs. Washington |
