Path to Liberty: The Emergence of a Nation (2025): This pistol was carried by Joshua Webster in the Battle of Long Island and throughout the war. Webster is said to have been a sergeant in the 2nd Regiment of the Connecticut Line from May to July of 1775, which fought in the Battles of Long Island, White Plains, Trenton, and Princeton. In 1777, 27-year-old Webster enrolled with the 3rd Regiment of the Connecticut Line that defended the Hudson River. A year later, Webster was listed as a sergeant, a rank that received 8 pounds for their service compared to the 2 pounds paid to privates in the same regiment. |
