I cant[sic]/ recollect what I wrote Walbeck but he left/ this the [illeg.] Nov. and Walbeck took him up on his rolls for/ that month as an Artificer I presume. TO be sure/ I can say he was appointed an Artificer on the day of his enlistment but the since[?] of it is I can say so with/ propriety for the Serjeant who brought him to me to/ enlist says I made him no promises of the kind. I am/ sorry Walbeck is so officious yet its hard you should loose[sic] it./ Carmichael company is stationed at Chickapaw/ Bluff on the Mississippi remote from inhabitants. It/ depends on the Secretary about your removing. I hope/ you will loose no time in forward.g your/ accounts./ The Secretary directs that you make inquiries to ascertain/ what a vessel can be engaged for to Transport 60 or 70 men/ from Baltimore to Orleans. Also inform me what number/ of men you have to be send[sic] from the Fort reserving one/ Serj.t one corporal and 25 privates. Inform me if Capn./ Boyd is doing any thing with the cannon.
