Dyson/ Command.r Detroit/ Michigan Territory/ Enclosed is a regulation from the War department for the/ future Government of the Officers &c. I enclosed the promotions/ and appointments to you some time since, which I hope you received/ To fill Cushing vacancy L.t Col. Hammond was nominated by/ the president and was negatived[sic] by the Senate. Hammond/ was one of territorial[?] L.t Col in upper Louisiana Louisiana[sic]." [Body of letter] "8 April/ I forgot to inform you in my letter, that/ James R. Grove has accepted his appoint.t/ of Surgeon/ mate, and is ordered to the port of Detroit. On his arrival/ Doctor Davis will proceed immediately to Fort Adams/ to attend to the duties of that port. I shall leave it/ with the Doctor to take that rout[sic] which he may think/ the most convenient and expeditious./ Dyson 8 April/ By a letter from Lieut. Armistead late/ at Winchester 24 Sep.t. He infoms me he had/ sent to Alexandria, to the care of Mr. James Patin[sic]/ subject to my order. Thirty sets of Artillery clothing,/ I should take it as a favour/ to be inform.d by the bearer, if such clothing has yet[?-torn]/ been received. I cant[sic] say whether it was in/ Boxes or Ragsheads[?]. If the clothing has been forw.d/ as above stated I should be exceedingly obliged to/ you if any Vessel was a going directly to Baltimore to put/ it on board directed to Captain John Walbeck Fort McHenry/ Mr Patin/ I am in[abrupt end]" |
