I wrote you/ on the 22 wherein I informed you I had directed/ C. Freeman to furnish you with a Serj.t or Corp.l and music &c./ and also to Captain Beall to the same effect. I send orders/ to Lieut Heald to join you and receive your instructions for/ his Government. It has always been my intention/ to have the recruits sent to F. Wolcott and Trumble. All/ the troops are order.d from St. Louis to F. Adams, except one compy/ of Artillery (Late McClallan now many by transfer) of course Bissell is down/ the river. I will speak to Major Swan respecting pay &c,/ Double rations are allowed to the commanding Officer at F. Trumbell[sic], how[?] for you will/ be entitled to them, is not for me to determine. I have/ received a letter from L.t Peter 25 Feb.y wherein he informs me they/ had nearly got through with Bruff Trial. The charges are brought/ forward by Richmound[sic]. The report of an action between our troops/ and the Spaniards at Natchitoches is premature." |
