[The torn piece at CL contained where Burbeck would have noted with whome he was corresponding and the date.] "Sir,/ The Proceedings of the Gen. C. Martial/ in the case of Capt.n Van Deursen will be forwarded/ for the examination and decision of the Sy. of War./ As some change[?] must take place as soon as/ the law reporting the incorporation of the Reg.t of A.y/ is proper. I did not answer to that part of your former[?]/ letter reporting Capt Rich taking the Comd'g Capt/ Van D.n Compy. And I think now it will be/ best to wait a few days longer, however [illeg.] the/ good of the service require it, I do not see why you/ as cmmd'r the District could not direct it. Captn/ Boardman[?] will have liberty to remain 10 days/ with his family by using[?] the time [illeg.] in his/ furlough. That Corps is also to undergo a change/ and out of 18 Troops the two Reg.t are men composed/ of 8 only will be kept in service./ With perfect respect/ I have the honor to be/ Sir your ob. ser./ J. Walbach/ Brig. Gen.l Burbeck/ New London" |
