"Letter to C. Walbeck[sic] and/ Nicoll 28 February" "28 Febr./ I received your letter of the 22 instant. I have wrote/ to Walbeck in Answr. to the letter you mention. Your son/ William has been verry[sic] anxious to visit his mother in Jersey, and/ from your letters which he has lately received, stating your intention/ of resigning, he fully believed that he should meet you at home/ I stated to him the folly of it, that it would not take place but/ he got the whim in his head, and go he must, and I believe/ he has wrote you on the subject. He has been brought forward in life/ two[sic] early. He is not happy one week in a place, and has had his/ way so long, that wants all the time to be on the move./ Colonel Nicol/ 28 February/ I received your recruiting this day received your packet/ of receiving instructions, but I dont[sic] rightly understand them, am/ I to send them to different comman.g officers of rendezvous or to each/ recruiting Officer. If money could be forwarded to L.t Col. Benjamin/ of the 37, I have no doubt but the greater part of his regiment will/ reinlist[sic], and I think the sooner forwarded the better, they are about nearly 50/ strong. How is the officers and witnesses to receiving their money/ for attending the court martial on C. Van Deursen, they are a asking me about/ it, and I have no funds for the purpose. The District pay master can/ be ordered to pay it, as it will be no greater sum, as the sum will be/ large for the recruits of the 37, the money can be lodged with the District/ pay master who resides near this place." |
