"Letter from C. Macomb/ 3 August/ Answd." "Albany 3d. August 1812/ Sir,/ I have been directed by Major General Dearborn to/ to[sic] ascertain what quantity of ordance and ordnance/ stored[?] are in this city belonging to the United States. I/ have in consequence called on the Military Store Keeper/ Mr. Merchant, who informs me that he has had/ no statements, invoices, or accounts of the Different/ articles belonging to the Ordnance Department/ + consequentlycannot give me the necessary/ information, I will therfore be obliged to you if/ you wil find me a statement of the/ ordanance &c. sent to this city by your orders &/ such other information concerning the artillery/ Department as may be within your power./ I have the Honor to be/ Sir, your most obed Srv./ Rbt.[?] Macomb/ Col.o 3d.
