"Letter from C. M.Pherson/ 16 May" "Bordenton - N.J. 16th May 1812/ Sir,/ In consequence of the Arrange-/ ments I am making for the Recruiting Party/ at this place, I must request your indulgence/ of a week's longer absence from Fort Colum-/ bus; if the fishing Season were over, we/ could procure the complement of Recruits/ in a short time; as it is we have some dif-/ ficulties to contend with; would it not/ be well to sen two musicians from Cap-/ tain Campbells[sic] Company + a few privates; I/ request also that Bennet of my Company/ may be sent; he will be of great service,/ & may be trusted on the journey - they can/ come cheaply by way of South Amboy + I/ hope my proposal may be agreeable to/ Captain Campbell./ I am, Sir,/ respectfully/ Y.r Obed.t Serv.t/ R.H.
