"Licearingen & Rhea/ 14 May." "14 May./ I received your letter of the 1 instant. Major Swan has/ forwarded 400 dollars to you and Fifty suits of clothing are/ ordered to you from Phil.a 30 infantry and 20 Artillery, enclosed/ are the Articles of War, and the Peace establishment. Ensign/ Clemmons I presume has joined you before this, he is furnish.d/ with money &c. I will think[sic] to inform him that he is/ not confined to the State of Penns.a to recruit, but to the/ United States at large./ L.t Rhea/ 14 May/ I received your letter of the 28 April. It would have/ been satisfactory to me, to have received an[sic] Statement of Carmich./ company. However your statement will Answ.r. I am a little/ astonished hear that company became so weak. Can their[sic] be any/ men recruited at Pitt. to fill up that company. Captain Hook/ says their can be 100 mn recruited every year. If I thought their/ could be I would find an Officer on, inform me. You are/ attached to the same company./ L.t Licearingen" |
