"Letter to Walbeck and/ Stark 1 March" "1 March/ I received your letter of the 10 Feb.r since which you have/ seen the pay master, and made a Settlement. Lieut Pinckney/ inform[sic] me you was[sic] a waiting for a Furlough. But from/ your letter, I had no right to send one. However your leave of/ absence to visit your friends until the 24 April at which time/ it will be necessary for you to repair to Carlisle to move in with/ the Troops./ Lieut Stark/ I received your letter of the 27 ultimo by Evans. I consent to your punish./ the prisinors[sic] as you have pointed out. I consider every/ thing of a private matter which I communicate to you before its[sic]/ proper.y promulgated. And the list of promotions which I enclosed/ to you, I mention as a private communication for they have/ not been loud[?] before the Senate of concequence[sic] its[sic] all premature in me. I think some of the rigs and/ the stoutest of tires may as well be sent on. I cannot tell what/ advise to give you, respecting your claim on the public. If the Secretary/ of War will not sanction it. It appears to me their[sic] can be no greate[sic]/ chance of your succeeding. I should put more confidence/ in the opinion of Mr. Rogers then[sic] in L.t Armistead. And he think[sic] you/ have a poor chance" |
