"Letter from C. Nicoll/ 7 March" "Washington City 7. March 1814/ Dear General/ Your letter of the 28 Ult. is received/ I am sorry William requested a furlough/ so soon, as I think it probably I should not/ get [illeg.] from here until the last of the/ month, I shall not have an opportunity/ o seing him before his furlough ensues./ His ridiculous extravagance here displeased/ me much, if he is in devt, he must extri-/ cate himself as well as he can - his pay/ is sufficient and he must make it maintain/ him./ The moment the promotions are confir-/ med by the Senate, you shall be informed./ Freeman has not been promoted in the 3 Act./ Kitty[?] Simonores[?] died the 27.
