"Letter to C. Walback[sic]/ 14 March" "[illeg.--torn] B. Capel[?]/ Senior Officer Commanding/ His Britanick[sic] Majesty's Naval Forces/ Off New London" "14 March/ I received your letter of the 7 instant. As there is no Deputy/ Q Master nor Assistant in the District, some person must be Authorised/ or funds provided for the payment. Mr. Tracy has been authorised/ to pay the accounts contracted in the Q.M. department but he dont[sic]/ think himself authorised to pay theses[sic] accounts, and further I beleave[sic] he is not/ in funds all this requires attention. I shall send on the proceeding to the Secy/ to approve. You understand by this, why I mention C. RIchards to comm/ and F. Trumbull. [crossd out text: "I wish that the order"] cannot C. Waterbury resignation be/ dated on the 12 instant, as he was a memeber of the Court Martial, which did not/ adjourn before the 11 instant. Col. Benjamin sent up the resignation without my knowledge/ and at the same time forgot he was a member, so much for 12 M.o men. Can the/ men of C. Benj.n Reg.t that has 4, 5, 6 and 7 months to stay be reinlisted[sic] for 5 years/ or during the war, or must they service with 2 mo. of their time being such. Recruiting/ money is wanted to reinlisted Captain Van Deursen Comp.y" |
